Cambridge Comhaltas Resume Lessons & Grúpa Cheoil Rehearsals This September!

Traditional music is back in full swing! Cambridge Comhaltas music lessons and rehearsals officially resume on Wednesday 16th September at the Rathmore Club, Cherry Hinton Road.

Whether you want to learn an instrument, join a youth group, sharpen your session tunes, or immerse yourself in traditional Irish culture, everyone is very welcome to pop along to the Rathmore Club to meet us, ask questions, and get a feel for our sessions!

Multi-Instrumental Group with Frank Corr (7:30 pm)

New to Irish music? Come and meet us – no experience needed! Drop in, say hello, and get a feel for the community. If you already have an instrument, bring it along and join our welcoming multi-instrumental lesson led by the fantastic Frank Corr from 7:30 pm. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow musicians, get advice, and ease into the tradition before starting individual lessons – or while waiting for a lesson slot to open up!

Lesson Availability & Waiting Lists

Due to a huge influx of new pupils, demand has been exceptionally high, and several of our instrument classes currently have waiting lists.

  • Button Accordion Lessons: Open slots are available for students ready to pick up or develop their button accordion skills.

  • Other Instruments: For full details on all the instruments we offer, please visit our [Lesson Information Page]. If you are interested in an instrument that currently has a waiting list, drop us an email at cambridge@comhaltas.co.uk to discuss options or be added to the list.

Rathmore Grúpa Cheoil Rehearsals

Rehearsals for Rathmore Grúpa Cheoil also restart on Wednesday 16th September!

Who can join: Young musicians aged 8–15 who can play a few tunes confidently on their instrument(s).

A Fresh Start: We will be learning all new tunes in the group this autumn, making this the absolute best time to join!

Rehearsal Times: Every Wednesday from 7:30 pm – 8:00 pm in the Rathmore Club (near the side door), with occasional weekend rehearsals when preparing for performances.

Performance Opportunities: Last year, the group performed at Cambridge Tradfest, PTA céilí dances for St Alban’s and St Philip’s Primary Schools, the Midland Region Fleadh, the All Britain Fleadh, and various local busking events.

How to Join: Bring your instrument(s) to the first rehearsal on 16th September! If you would like to know more beforehand, feel free to speak to Sylvie.

Weekly Beginners & Improvers Session (9:00 pm)

Every Wednesday at 9:00 pm, after official lessons wrap up, a friendly group of adult learners comes together for an informal session. This relaxed setting is a great way to build confidence, play at a comfortable pace, and reinforce new tunes before jumping into faster sessions.

Irish Language Lessons & 2026/2027 Membership

Weekly Irish Language Classes: Beyond music, we offer weekly Irish language (Gaeilge) lessons. If you are interested in joining, please email us to discuss timings, levels, and how to sign up.

Comhaltas Branch Membership (2026/2027): We are just about to begin taking Comhaltas membership for the upcoming 2026/2027 year. Please note that holding active branch membership is required for anyone taking lessons with Cambridge Comhaltas.
