New – Irish Set Dancing Classes

Below is an email from Robin Gracey, who led the Irish Set dancing workshop at our Cambridge Tradfest. The workshop was such a success that he will now be running a monthly class in Cambridge! If you’d like to attend or need more details, please contact him at robin.gracey@btinternet.com.

Would you like to learn Irish Set Dancing?

I shall be running a class in Cambridge at St Philip’s Church on Mill Road, CB1 3AN.

The dates for the summer are:
Tuesday 1st April
Tuesday 6th May
Tuesday 3rd June
Tuesday 1st July

All the classes will run from 8pm to 10pm.

I shall be aiming the classes at beginners, but more experienced dancers will be very
welcome. I shall cover basic steps and moves, and base my teaching on core set dances.
Shoes with smooth soles, such as leather, are ideal. Trainers are not so good as they offer
too much grip. Please bring your own water or such.

The cost of each class is £10.

The May, June and July classes will be in the Lounge at St Philip’s. However the first class in
April will be upstairs in the Howard Room. This is smaller than the Lounge. I don’t want to
restrict numbers; it would be helpful to me if you would let me know that you are coming to
the first session in April. Much early set dancing was done in Irish cottage kitchens. If they
can dance in a tight space……

I hope that the classes will be instructive, involving and fun! I look forward to seeing you.
Yours
Robin
